Niger State declares lockdown over coronavirus

The Niger State Government has declared a total lockdown in the state as a precautionary measure against coronavirus.

Governor Abubakar Sani Bello who made the announcement in a state-wide broadcast on Monday March 23, declared restriction of movement from 8am to 8pm. He also directed the closure of all Almajiri schools in the state with immediate effect from today, Monday 23.

He added;

“All public gatherings have been banned from today. Only those carrying out essential services will be allowed.”

The Niger State Governor further disclosed that the lockdown order will be effected from Wednesday March 25. According to him, the decision became necessary due to the new cases of coronavirus emerging from Abuja which Niger State shares a common boundary with.
