An explosion went off in Akure and was felt by residents of other cities close to the town. The explosion was heard around 12:30 am to 1 am on Saturday morning, the 28th of March 2020.
Many have also falsely claimed that what residents of Akure heard on Saturday morning was the Asteroid hitting the town. See those making that claim below:
Some reports have claimed that the explosion that was heard in Akure was from an explosive device that went off while being transported in a vehicle. This information is yet to be verified .

The Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, in a tweet said he had been briefed and would visit the scene of the incident.
“I’ve been briefed by security agencies in the state concerning the loud blast that was heard in Akure. I will be at the scene to assess on the advise of heads of our security agencies. I ask that all citizens remain calm as we ascertain details of the incidence.”
